Siobhan Cullen LLb (Hons), MSc (Equality Studies)

Siobhan Cullen is a distinguished Solicitor with a rich background in family law and criminal defence, previously practicing in London. As an accredited Mediator and Restorative Practice facilitator, Siobhan excels in conflict resolution, especially in cases involving disability, gender, race, ethnicity & culture, sexual orientation, religion, and unconscious bias within the workplace, community or educational settings. 

Siobhan’s expertise lies in equality, demonstrated through her roles as an EDI Associate with Advance HE and a Commissioner with the Equality Commission Northern Ireland, where she also chairs the Statutory Duties Investigations Committee.

With twenty five years experience as a law lecturer and a former Head of Department of Law, Public Service, and Education, Siobhan has a profound academic background in teaching, learning and research. Siobhan was Athena Swan/ Gender Equality Lead at Open University Law School 2022-2024 and her recent research projects have focused on enablers and barriers for students in secure environments and students who are members of the traveling community.

Siobhan's roles as part-time Tribunal Member with both the Mental Health Commission and International Protection Appeals Tribunal have honed her decision-making and adjudication skills, enriched by her lived experiences in EDI.

Siobhan actively participates in several voluntary boards, including serving as Chairperson with Donegal Women’s Centre, Board Member with Donegal Sports Partnership, and Committee Member with the Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS) at Letterkenny University Hospital. She is also a voluntary member of Athena Swan ( Ireland) Assessment Panel which assesses gender equality in Higher Education, providing Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

As an experienced lawyer, educator, and mediator, Siobhan leverages her skills to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and enhancing experiences in workplace, educational, and community organisations.
